Burano is said to be one of the 10 most colorful places in the world. Photographers will love the colorful cityscape that shines in the waterways where green water flows. Located about 11km northeast of the main island of Venice, about 45 minutes by water bus (Vaporetto). It’s exciting just to take a water bus from Venice to Burano to explore the Italian World Heritage lagoon. Burano is the perfect day trip from Venice, with a few hours to explore the entire island.
- Burano is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Italy:
Burano, with its colorful houses, was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Italy in 1987 as “Venezia e la sua Laguna” (Venezia e la sua Laguna), along with Murano, known for its glasswork.
Known as a lace-producing region loved by European aristocrats, heading toward the center of the island from the water bus stop, you will find shops selling delicate lace parasols, table centers, dresses, stalls, etc. I will line up.
Next to the city hall on Piazza Baldassare Galuppi, the former lace school building remains as the Museo del Merletto, the history of Burano lace, where all the steps are hand-crafted. And you can see the demonstration.
The wooden bridge, where the video was shot, faces Via Baldassarre Galuppi and Fondamenta Pontinello Destra, which leads to Piazza Garuppi, and is one of the popular spots for tourists.
There are various shops and restaurants along the waterway, so why not take your time looking for memories of your trip while gazing at the cityscape, or taste the gourmet food unique to Burano.
Bussola and Esse, cookies with plenty of eggs and butter, are the island’s famous sweets. Bussola has a donut shape, and Esse has an S shape as its name suggests.
The risotto de go of the fish “go” caught in the lagoon is a local dish of Burano. I also want to eat seafood unique to the Venice lagoon.
- Take a walk through the colorful island of Burano with your camera in your hand!:
The water in the waterways that flow through Burano is deep green. The colorful houses are projected on the surface of the water, making the island even more colorful.
Known as the most colorful house on the island is the La Casa di Bepi Sua, a blue and red building with yellow, green and orange geometric patterns. Why don’t you look for Beppe’s house while taking a walk?
There is a story about the colorful cityscape of Burano that fishermen painted their houses in bright colors so that they could see their house from a distance, but different colors for a series of buildings without gardens or walls. By painting with, it was also useful for clarifying the range of ownership.
The bell tower of the Church of San Martino (Chiesa di San Martino) on the Galuppi Square is also known as the Leaning Tower of Brano. If you look at the 53m high bell tower from a distance, you can see that it is more inclined.
- Another attraction of Burano:
Not to mention the colorful cityscape, but also the sculptures of beautiful women that you first see when you arrive on Burano.
This sculpture, displayed in the square in front of the water bus stop, is the work of the sculptor Remigio Barbaro from Burano.
Other celebrities from Burano include the composer Baldassare Galuppi and Pino Donaggio, who is known not only as a singer-songwriter but also as a film score composer.
The sculpture of the composer Baldassare Galuppi, also by Barbaro, is located on the main square of the island, Garuppi Square, named in honor of his achievements.
In addition to the sculptures, there are many wonderful subjects such as Istrian stone wells and windows decorated with colorful flowers that blend into the colorful cityscape as you stroll through the island.
Burano Island attracts tourists with its colorful cityscape that is picturesque no matter where you take it. I tried to summarize the shooting spots other than the recommended spots I introduced.
