In the meeting of the City Council, the members overwhelmingly voted in favor of the imposition of Venice entry fee on the tourists from this year. The suggested fee structure was –
It was also decided to enhance the Venice entry fee to 5 Euros in 2024;
The difference in the entry fee shall be based on the seasonal variations; and
Fees will be higher in the tourist season.
“This is a significant turning point in the management of Venice’s tourist flows,” said Mayor Luigi Brugnaro, the pioneer of the entry fee plan.
How can visitors book tickets for Venice? An online booking system in multiple languages will be made available for visitors to pre-book their trip to Venice. Upon booking, visitors will receive a QR code that acts as their ticket and should be shown to ticket controllers.
Visitors staying overnight in the city are exempt, a move to encourage people to spend the night, thereby putting more money into the economy.
